Outbound moves need a different start from a local shift.

Distance means more handling, and more handling means packing has to be better from the outset. Fragile items are wrapped and boxed separately and labelled as fragile so they are treated that way at every lift, not just the first one. Furniture that will be carried repeatedly is protected rather than merely covered.

Start time matters more than people expect. A load that leaves late arrives late, and unloading a household after dark is worse for everyone involved. When we agree a date for an outbound Titwala move we agree a start time with it, and we plan the day so the unloading happens in daylight.

The same wardrobe is a ten-minute job from a ground-floor flat with the vehicle at the door and a forty-minute job from a third floor with a turning staircase and a fifty-metre carry. Multiply that across a household and the two jobs are genuinely different lengths of day.

So the figure is assembled from: how much there is once every cupboard and loft has been opened; the floor at each end and whether a lift exists and works; how far goods travel between the door and the vehicle; the packing material the contents actually require; how many people the job needs to be done without rushing; the vehicle size that volume and access jointly permit; and the date, since availability across the Titwala and Kalyan belt narrows sharply at month-end.

We would rather establish all of that in a short survey than produce a number over the phone and revisit it in your doorway. A quote that has to be renegotiated once the crew sees the staircase was never a quote.

Once a move leaves the region, you face a decision that can come up for the first time at the quote stage, and it is worth understanding before you compare numbers.

Titwala moves reward planning more than most, because the town is at the outer end of the belt and the useful options narrow as the date approaches.

A month out, the work is decisions rather than effort. Decide the date, and decide what is not travelling. Book the survey early: availability across the Kalyan and Titwala belt tightens sharply towards month-end, and a survey booked late often means a date you did not want.

Three weeks out, handle anything that needs notice: utility transfers, address changes, and any paperwork the building or the owner requires. If you are leaving a rented flat, agree what condition it must be handed over in now. Handover disputes discovered on the final morning stop everything, because the crew cannot load while a negotiation is happening in the doorway.

Two weeks out, start disposing of what you decided not to move. Selling, giving away and discarding all take longer than expected, and items left undecided end up on the vehicle by default at the cost of volume and material.

One week out, pack whatever you are handling yourself and label it the way you would want to find it. Confirm the start time with us, not just the date.

The simple test is whether an item has been used in the last year and whether you would buy it again today. Furniture that has been outgrown, appliances kept because they might be repaired one day, and cartons that were never opened after the last move are the three categories that most often travel for no reason.

Volume drives almost everything on a quote: material, vehicle size, crew size and hours. Removing a wardrobe you do not want is a larger saving than negotiating on the rate, and it is entirely in your control.

There is a second category worth separating: things that should move but not on the truck. Documents, jewellery, medicines, laptops, keys and anything irreplaceable belong with you. Not because a vehicle is unsafe, but because sealed cartons are impossible to search when you suddenly need something, and that is where moving-day stress actually comes from.

A third category is items that need special handling rather than ordinary packing: a glass table top, a large mirror, a musical instrument, a fish tank, a heavy safe. Flag these at the survey. They are all manageable, but they need to be planned for rather than discovered.

What we would rather you did not do is under-declare to reduce a quote. The crew and vehicle are sized from the survey, and a job that turns out to be half again as large runs late for everyone.

The method does not change with the size of the job, and knowing it in advance makes the day easier to follow.

The crew walks the flat and the exit route before anything is touched, and that walk sets the order of work. Protection goes down where the route is tight. Dismantling of beds, wardrobes and modular furniture starts early, because those set the pace of the morning, and leaving them late is one of the easiest ways to make a move overrun.

Packing is done room by room rather than by category, with each carton marked for its room and flagged if fragile. Crockery is wrapped individually and stood on edge; glasses are padded and packed upright; electronics are boxed with cushioning on every face. Fittings from dismantled furniture are bagged and taped to the piece they belong to, which is why reassembly later takes an hour instead of an afternoon.

Loading follows a plan: heavy and rigid low and first, furniture stood and braced, cartons stacked sturdy-at-the-bottom, gaps filled so nothing shifts on the road. Before the vehicle leaves, someone walks the empty flat with you and opens every cupboard and loft.

At the destination, furniture goes in and is reassembled before cartons crowd the floor, then cartons go to the rooms marked on them rather than into a pile by the door.

Commercial work in Titwala tends to be smaller in scale than in the bigger centres, which changes the plan rather than the principles.

For an office or a shop, downtime is still the real cost. We plan around trading or working hours, which usually means an evening or a weekend, and we move in the order things come back into service.
