Planning a warehouse move without stopping work
Very few businesses can close a warehouse for a week, so most of these moves happen around continuing operations.

What we need from you
- A view of what is picked often and what is not, because that decides the order.
- Access details at both sites: bay, shutter, ramp, lift, and the hours each is available.
- Whether anything is serial-numbered or has to be reconciled on arrival.
- Who is authorised to make decisions on the day at each end.
Receiving site first
It is worth walking the receiving site before the origin. A warehouse that cannot take the goods in the order they arrive turns a one-day move into a two-day one, and that is discoverable in advance.
Why these jobs are quoted after a site visit
Warehouse and heavy item work turns on access and sequencing rather than volume, and none of that is visible in a description or a photograph.
What we look at on site: how an item comes out of where it currently stands, the route from there to the vehicle, floor levels and any change in them, door and corridor widths, whether a lift exists and what it will actually take, and what is waiting at the receiving end.
A heavy object with a straight path and a wide door is a simpler job than a lighter one at the top of a turning staircase. That is why weight alone is a poor guide to what a job costs, and why we would rather see it than quote blind and revise the figure once the crew arrives.
Warehouse and godown relocation
A warehouse move is a sequencing problem.
- What comes out first and what must stay usable longest, so operations continue as far as possible.
- How goods leave the unit: loading bay, shutter, ramp, or a carry to the vehicle.
- What the receiving site can physically accept, including its access hours and floor loading.
- The order goods arrive in, because a warehouse filled in the wrong order has to be handled twice.
Stock and stored goods are moved in a countable sequence rather than as one undifferentiated load, so you can reconcile at the far end. Where records or serial-numbered items are involved, they are listed rather than stacked.
Heavy items and equipment
This covers anything beyond a standard crew: a safe, a large appliance, gym equipment, machinery items, or a single piece that simply will not go through a door assembled.
The questions are the same every time
- What does it weigh, roughly?
- How does it come out of where it currently sits?
- What does the route to the vehicle look like?
- What is waiting at the other end?
Crating
Genuinely heavy or awkward items are crated in timber rather than wrapped. A crate spreads load, protects edges and gives something to grip and brace against. Crates are built to the item, on site where that is the practical option.
What we do not do
We do not install, commission or calibrate equipment, and we do not carry out dismantling that requires a specialist engineer. Statutory permissions for oversized loads are not arranged unless agreed in advance. If a job needs any of that, it is better established now than on the morning.
Storage between two dates
Storage-related shifting comes up whenever the two ends of a move do not meet in time: possession delayed, renovation overrunning, or a gap between one lease ending and the next beginning.
Two answers decide what is practical, and they matter more than how much there is:
- How long, roughly.
- How often you need access in the meantime.
Goods going into storage are packed differently from goods going straight into a new home. They are protected for stationary time as well as travel, and cartons are numbered and listed so an item can be located without opening everything.
