Packers and Movers from Mumbai and Kalyan to Pune

This page is for somebody whose goods are currently in the Mumbai region and who is moving them to Pune. That direction matters, because it decides where the work actually happens.

The survey, the packing, the dismantling and the loading all take place at your current address. That is most of the labour and effectively all of the risk. The Pune end is a delivery: unload, place, reassemble where agreed. So an outbound move is best handled by a mover who can come and look at your existing home, which is what we do from Kalyan East and our Mumbai branch.

Three things change compared with a local move:

Packing has to be built for the road from the start. On a short shift a carton is lifted, carried, driven briefly and carried again. On a Pune run it travels for hours with the vibration that involves. Anything packed loosely enough to shift will shift for the whole journey rather than for ten minutes.

The vehicle is committed. It is not coming back that afternoon for a forgotten item, so the inventory has to be right before loading starts. We would rather spend longer at the survey on an intercity job than find a gap at the far end.

Timing is a plan rather than an estimate. Departure time, the route and its restrictions for larger vehicles, and the arrival window are all agreed rather than assumed. Unloading a household into an unfamiliar building after dark is worse for your goods and for everybody involved.

Most of what moves on this route is an ordinary household, and the handling is the same regardless of distance: it is the standard that rises.

Kitchen and crockery. Plates are bundled and stood on edge rather than stacked flat, because a plate takes load best through its strongest axis. Glasses are packed upright with paper inside the bowl supporting the walls. Kitchen cartons are the heaviest in the house and get their base seams double-taped.

Furniture. Wardrobes, beds and modular units are dismantled where they will not clear a doorway or a staircase turn, with the fittings bagged and kept with the piece. Solid-wood items that do not come apart are wrapped whole, and the route out is planned rather than discovered.

Appliances. A refrigerator is defrosted and dried in advance, and left standing for a period at the destination before being switched on. A washing machine has a moving drum that needs securing for transit; ask whoever is moving it how they intend to do that, because it is a real question rather than a formality.

Fragile and high-value items. Mirrors, glass tops and screens travel upright on edge, never flat with weight above them, and anything that wrapping alone will not protect gets a timber crate built around it.

This is the part customers underestimate most, and it is the single biggest cause of an intercity move going wrong at the far end.

We can look at your current address. We will not have seen the Pune one. So it has to be established by asking the right questions in advance, ideally of whoever is handing over the property rather than from photographs:

• Which floor, and is there a lift
• Are household goods permitted in that lift, which is a separate question from whether one exists
• Will it take a mattress, a double-door refrigerator or a wardrobe that does not dismantle
• How close can a goods vehicle stand, and for how long
• What hours does the building permit shifting work, and does the society want notice

Get those answers before the vehicle leaves and the unloading half is planned. Miss them and a crew arrives after a long drive to find it cannot start, which is the most expensive way for an intercity move to fail.

For an intercity move the checks are different from a local one, because you cannot easily walk into the office of a company two hundred kilometres away and because the consequences of a bad choice are harder to undo.

Worth establishing before you book anybody:

Will they survey your home, or only quote from a description? For anything larger than a one-room move, a quote given without a survey is an estimate. It will move.

Is the load dedicated or shared? A shared load can be a perfectly good option and is often cheaper, but it changes the timeline. A quote that is much lower than the others without saying which it is deserves a direct question.

What vehicle is being sent, and what happens if the volume is underestimated? On a local move a second trip is an inconvenience. Here it is a second day.

Who is your point of contact while the goods are in transit? You should not be chasing an unanswered number.

What is in the written scope? Packing, dismantling, reassembly, unloading and unpacking are often assumed included when they are not. Get it in writing.

What happens if the destination is not ready? Ask about storage before you need it.

There is no rate card here, and a published figure for "2 BHK Mumbai to Pune" is a marketing number rather than a quote. What is useful is knowing what actually moves it.

• Volume. Household moving is priced on the space goods occupy rather than weight. Decluttering before the survey reduces the figure directly, and on an intercity route it matters more than locally because every carton travels the full distance.
• Distance and route. Unlike a local shift, this is a genuine factor: the vehicle is committed and the return leg is real cost whether or not anything is in it.
• Access at both ends, including the floors, lift availability and parking at a destination nobody has surveyed.
• Packing scope. Full packing, fragile items only, or labour with your own materials are three different prices.
• Dismantling and reassembly, which is labour at both ends and the most common gap between what a customer expects and what a quote covers.
• Heavy or awkward items needing extra crew or an on-site crate.
• Vehicle transport, if a car or two wheeler is moving too. That travels separately on an enclosed carrier: see car and bike transportation.
• Storage, if the two dates do not meet.
• Date flexibility. A fixed date at a month end is the most expensive combination.

What you do in the fortnight before the move affects the day more than anything we do on it.

Three to four weeks out. Decide what is actually going, and be decisive about anything unused for a year. Start the society paperwork at your current address, because written intimation, deposits and permitted shifting hours vary between buildings and take time.

Two weeks out. Confirm the booking in writing with the scope named. Get the destination access answers listed above. Begin utility transfers and address changes.

One week out. Pack what you will not need, labelling each carton for the room it is going to at the new address rather than the one it came from. Photograph anything valuable before it is packed.

The day before. Defrost the refrigerator. Pack an essentials bag that travels with you rather than on the vehicle: documents, identification, jewellery, medicines, chargers, a change of clothes, basic toiletries, and bedding for the first night unless you are certain beds will be reassembled on arrival.
