When the carry is the job
On an ordinary move the carrying is a small part of the day. Where a vehicle cannot reach the entrance, it becomes almost all of it, and everything else follows from that.
Two things change. First, crew size stops being a function of how many rooms you have and becomes a function of how far each item travels on somebody's shoulder. Sending four people to a job that needs seven does not save money; it turns one day into two, and tired crews are how things get dropped. Second, packing changes: cartons are kept to a weight one person can carry a real distance without setting them down, which means more boxes rather than fewer.
So the questions we ask are different from elsewhere. Where exactly can the vehicle stand, legally and safely. How far is that from the door. Is the route level, or are there steps or a slope. Is there a point where a smaller vehicle could get closer, even if it means more than one run. Those answers set the crew, the schedule and the price.
What we will not do is quote from a room count and revise once the crew has seen the approach. If we have not looked at the route, we say so rather than pricing the easy version.
Household and shop moves
The method itself is the same one we use everywhere, adjusted for the carry.
Packing runs room by room with our own materials. Cartons are labelled for the room they are going to at the new address rather than the one they came from, because on a long carry nobody is going to open a box to find out where it belongs. Fragile items are wrapped individually and packed so nothing shifts inside, which matters more when a carton is handled many times rather than wheeled once. Wardrobes, beds and modular units are dismantled where a doorway or turn will not take them, with fittings kept together for reassembly.
Shop and small commercial premises follow the same logic with one addition: stock is boxed by category so it goes back on shelves rather than being sorted twice, and the closure is kept as short as the access realistically allows. Larger commercial jobs are covered on the office relocation page.
If you have transport arranged and only want the packing or the heavy work done, packing, loading and unloading can be booked on its own. Full house-move scope is on the house shifting page.
Moving cost in Dharavi: what decides the price
There is no rate card here, and a number quoted for a flat without knowing the carry is an estimate that will be revised at the least convenient moment.
What decides it: the volume of goods, the carrying distance and whether the route has steps, the floor at each end and whether a lift exists, the packing scope, any dismantling and reassembly, unusually heavy items, and the date. On constrained-access moves the carry frequently outweighs everything else, which is why two similar households can need very different crews.
Moves out to the wider Mumbai area, or to Thane and the Kalyan belt, add driving time and route restrictions for larger vehicles, so a start time is agreed with the date. Longer relocations are a different service, with packing built for the journey from the outset: see domestic and intercity relocation. Cars and two wheelers travel separately under car and bike transportation.
The general cost explanation is in what actually affects the cost, and the checks worth making before booking anyone are in how to choose a mover. Send both addresses, where a vehicle can stand at each, a rough inventory and your date through the contact page, or browse areas we serve.
