In an older low-rise building the constraints are physical. How many floors, how the staircase turns, whether a large item will clear a landing, and how far the carry is to wherever a vehicle can stand. The crew is sized to the carrying rather than the room count, cartons are kept to a weight one person can manage on stairs, and the day is longer at the muscle end than at the paperwork end.

In a newer tower the constraints are procedural. A goods lift that has to be booked for a slot, hours the building sets rather than you, passes arranged in advance, and a defined place for the vehicle. The carrying is easy; the scheduling is not. Crew is sized so the work finishes inside the window, because a missed slot can cost a day.

Those are not variations on one quote. They are different crew sizes, different packing decisions and different risks, which is why the first question at survey is what kind of building you are in at each end. It is entirely normal for a move to be one type at the pickup and the other at the destination, and that combination needs planning from both directions.

The packing method is constant regardless of building type. Room by room with our own materials, cartons labelled for the room they are going to at the new address rather than the one they came from, fragile items wrapped individually and packed so nothing shifts inside the box, and wardrobes, beds and modular units dismantled where a doorway, staircase turn or lift will not take them assembled, with the fittings kept together for reassembly.

What changes is carton weight. In a lift building a heavier carton is fine; on a staircase it is what gives way halfway down, so we pack smaller and heavier items into smaller boxes. More cartons rather than fewer, which surprises people and is the reason a staircase move can be done without incident.

Part bookings are normal. If you have transport arranged and only want the packing done, or only the heavy work, packing, loading and unloading can be taken on its own and is priced as the smaller job it is.

No rate card appears here. The figure comes from the volume, the building type at each end and everything that follows from it, the floor and lift position, how close a vehicle can stand, how narrow any permitted window is, the packing scope, dismantling and reassembly, unusually heavy items, and the date.

Because the building type does so much of the work, a quote given without knowing it is an estimate rather than a price.
